In November 2012 the Danish Refugee Council (DRC), United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) and United Nations Department of Safety & Security (UN-DSS) founded the Safety and Security Committee for Lebanon (SSCL) – nee Lebanon INGO Safety and Security Forum (LISSF). SSCL is an independent and neutral organization based on the 2006 framework of “Saving Lives Together” and on best practice in risk management, funded by the member contributions and European Commission Humanitarian Organization (ECHO).
Description
SSCL is comprised of an inclusive membership of over 80 members (INGO’s, IO’s, local NGO’s and UN agencies) and represents a wide platform for information sharing, coordination, training and best practice in risk management. Its aim is to enhance safety and security by fostering awareness and dialogue, analysis and improved risk management amongst members, strategic partners and the Lebanese community. It works towards building predictive, innovative and enabling products for members.
SSCL is similar to other safety platforms such as PakSafe (Now Pakistan Humanitarian Forum Safety Office), and ISAO-Yemen; however, it is unique for its membership diversity; and extensive training and capacity building assistance offered to its members. SSCL coordinates with key international and local partners such as the United Nations Department for Safety and Security (UNDSS), European Interagency Security Forum (EISF), the UN-Humanitarian Security Working Group (Lebanon), the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) and the Internal Security Forces (ISF).
